Summer is defiantly over as the hot days are gone until next year and the Holidays are just a couple

 weeks away..........

Today as I write this the wind is calm, the high was 77 degrees while cloudy and overcast. Nice day on the water? you bet'cha!!!....... The cold fronts are slowly starting to sweep downwards to South West Florida. With this is mind the fishing is starting to change. The good news is FISHING is GOOD. ............The water has cooled a little causing the fish to be more active while moving some of the migrating fish into this area. There is also a lot of bait-fish moving in. This is the time of year that we start catching what we call our mix bag. For the next few months we will be catching REDFISH in numbers. Some nice SNOOK, FAT TROUT (three different species of trout), BIG POMPANO (up to 4 lbs) MACKEREL, BLUEFISH, even catch COBIA up on the flats while TROUT fishing. We will also be catching SHEEPSHEAD, BLACK DRUM, SNAPPER, FLOUNDER, YELLOWTAIL JACKS, LADYFISH and WHITING. Do you love eating Walleye....then you will love our WHITING. As usual I will be fishing on the flats, in the rivers, around the mangroves and along the beaches. This time of year with the occasional cold front passing is what determines where we fish and what we fish for. For example if we have a front come thru the night before your fishing trip, chances are that we won't be on the flats fishing for trout, as the front will cause the water to mud up and this usually results in a lot of fishing and not much catching. So we will want to go where we will do some catching. Maybe in the river mouths, maybe fish some of the deep holes, or maybe along the mangrove islands. Wherever and whatever it takes to put us on fish. Here in the Everglades National Park/10,000 Islands we have a lot of places to fish regardless of the wind and weather. With the holidays just around the bend it is easy to forget to make your fishing plans until the last minute. This sometimes leads for disappointments when you can't fish with whom you want or when you want. Anyway, don't forget it is always a good idea to reserve your day as soon as you have an idea when you might want to fish...................................... Looks at the size of some of these fish......From MONSTER SNOOK to BABY TARPON....slot size REDFISH to keeper size TROUT....it's going to be a GREAT SEASON:

Rain.....Rain.....Rain......What a nice summer we have had, but looking forward to some cooler weather. Yes we have had a lot of rain this summer and I think that's a good thing. Ya see, everytime we have a rainy summer we have a fantastic season to follow. I think this is because it not only puts plenty of oxygen in the water but also flushes out all the small bait fish and larva for the bigger fish to feed on while lowering the water temperature a little....................So far we are catching lots of REDFISH (in the slot) along with some SNOOK, BABY TARPON, GOLIATH GROUPER, MACKEREL and TROUT just to name a few.. Speaking of TROUT....this year the FWC has decided to leave the TROUT season OPEN ALL YEAR. Yay, that's defiantly a big plus. As usually TROUT season closes in November and December....So we get to take home trout in Nov and Dec for some tasty meals. I especially like eating trout when the water temperature cools down as I think they taste better. The sad thing is they (FWC) have left snook season closed again until Sept 2013, Ugh...good news is we can still catch them, just have to release them....................If you are thinking about a fishing trip this season now is the time to make you winter fishing plans. We all know the holidays are getting close so we will have that on our minds with all the shopping, parties and family get togethers, so don't wait to long and miss out on that special day for your Everglades National Park experience of a lifetime.................... FANTASTIC FISHING AND BEAUTIFUL WEATHER

The fishing has been fantastic for the last few weeks, even the week the wind was blowing up to 25 mph the fishing was good. For the last few days the wind has laid back down finally and it is a beautiful day....high of 76 with easterly winds of about 5-10 knots...the rest of the week is suppose to be 2-7 knots...wow, can you believe this weather.

Anyway, we are catching a good mix bag of fish. Which is typical this time of year. Plenty of action on the flats for pompano, trout, bluefish, ladyfish, mackerel and flounder. Around the islands we are catching a nice number of snook, redfish, jewfish, jacks, ladyfish and snapper. We also caught a 23 inch Gag Grouper in the Islands. I had 2 couples fish with me a couple days ago, so we called the girls against the guys. Well, guess who won that day...The girls with a score of 24 to 23(not to bad for a half day charter). We had a hard time keeping track the day before so this day they brought a pencil and pad to keep score with. We actually caught 16 snook and Barb caught the biggest one (snook). These fish weren't monsters, but they are a lot of fun especially when they wanted to see who (guys or girls) could catch and land the most fish. Roberta caught the biggest fish over all being a 49 inch bonnet-head shark. She had a lot of fun catching that one. The guys did a good job keeping up with the girls and of course Jim says "I caught the best eating fish" with his 23" gag grouper. Chuck was having fun just being in the game catching fish and away from work.

Everglades Fishing Charters Fishing Report July 2011

Capt Becky is back in full swing down in Everglades City after being up in Boca Grande for a short nice season, full of great tarpon fishing, time spent with new friends, and a great tournament team I am already missing.
I have already started taking bookings for our next tarpon season(2012) up in Boca Grande. If you want to fish for the Silver Kings with me up in Boca Grande be sure and make your plans early as the season only last about 6 weeks, so we book up early. The fishing out of Everglades City has been on and off, but mostly ON. The weather is starting to get into a pattern with it being cloudy in the mornings and raining in late afternoon/evenings. This makes the fishing good as it flushes out the rivers/creeks and also cools everything down a little.

We are still catching the usual.....Trout, Redfish, Snook, Pompano, Mackerel, Blackdrum, Mangrove Snapper, Sharks, Goliath Grouper and Baby Tarpon. Actually the Baby Tarpon fishing is getting better each day, as the hotter it gets the hotter the Baby Tarpon fishing gets. There were some Cobia and Permit along with big Sharks on the near shore wrecks last week.

The summer months will continue to be consistently good for the above species.

I would like to recommend 1/2 - 3/4 day charters this time of year because it is warm and also to stay away from the afternoon rains.

Well, guess everyone is ready for a fishing report. My apologies for being behind on the report.

The fishing has been good with nice catches of trout, red fish, pompano, mackerel, bluefish, snook, etc. A couple days ago we had the biggest trout of the season (on my boat)...a 24 3/4" gator trout. Now that's a nice big trout. We are catching some nice big ones, most around 18-19 inches. These fish are fun to catch and great to eat. It is nice to be able to take them to a restaurant here in town (or take home) to fix for your dinner as the table fare is great and you can't get any fresher than that.


The tarpon are here but are kind of a hit and miss (my opinion) The weather has a lot to do with where there are and also being able to see them. I guess everyone knows that I prefer the small ones (in Everglades City) as they are more predictable and are a blast to catch without the long hours of fighting one.

However if you do prefer the big boys I have 2 dates left for tarpon charters in Boca Grande....the 26 of May and the 2 of June. This is the time that the tarpon are dependable enough to tournament fish and also recreational fish for them. So if you would like to fish for the big boys in Boca Grande give me a call (239-695-2029) and I will get you booked in.

The weather down is here is beautiful with high in the low 80's and nights in the mid 60's. Really makes the fish turn on as the bait fish are flowing onto the flats and this brings on a great bite of all fish including cobia, tarpon, sharks, mackerel, big trout, etc. When the nights are steady in the 60 with no 50's any longer the offshore snook will start to flow in while the snook from the black water will start to move toward the passes. This should start happening any day now as I write this we will have nothing by nights time temperatures in the 60's for the week.

Last week I saw my first swallow tail kite....this means that winter is over and spring is here....yeah we get to put up the coats and sweaters and get out our summer clothes.

Okay looks like it's gonna be a great spring and summer so it's time to start making those vacation plans. Trout season opened on the 1st of January and it's starting out to be a fantastic one at that. We are catching a lot of trout and some nice big ones. The cold fronts are swinging down just about every week. That means we have a couple days of cold weather and then 4 or 5 days of very nice weather. Today is a cold day with temp in the mid 40 in the mornings and upper 60 in the afternoon. Tomorrow will be back up to the low to mid 70's....very nice with a bright sunny day.

We are back to the time of the year that we catch a mix bag of everything. This is fun cause you never know what might hit your line. Maybe something as small as a mangrove snapper or how about something as big as a 50lb blackdrum....even better than that what about a tarpon that comes skyrocketing out of the water. It can be pretty exciting sometimes.

What we are catching now and what we expect to catch in the next couple months.....Trout-season is open....snook-season is closed (catch/release only)......redfish-season is open....pompano-open....mackerel-open....bluefish-open...blackdrum-open.....sheepshead-open....tarpon-catch/release only....mangrove snapper-open....ladyfish, jacks, sharks etc.

Looks like it is going to be a great season.
